# findaskill MCP

Give your AI agent a catalog of **skills** and **MCP servers** it can search on its own, without bloating its context.

- **Free and unlimited** for now — an API key is required.
- **Read-only**: findaskill never installs, connects or executes anything.
- **Light by design**: 5 results per search, short answers, footprint levels shown before you add anything.

## 1. Get your key

Create a free key at **https://findaskill.tech/settings** → **API & MCP** (up to 3 keys per account). Keep it private: never paste it in a chat, a screenshot or a repository. If a key leaks, revoke it in settings and create a new one.

## 2. Connect your client

**Claude Code** (replace `<your-key>`):

```sh
claude mcp add --transport http findaskill https://findaskill.tech/api/public/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <your-key>"
```

**Cursor / Windsurf** (`mcp.json`):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "findaskill": {
      "url": "https://findaskill.tech/api/public/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <your-key>" }
    }
  }
}
```

Then reconnect (`/mcp` in Claude Code) or start a new session so the tools load. Check the connection status in your client.

## 3. What your agent gets

| Tool | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| `findaskill_search_skills` | Search skills (reusable instructions your agent can apply immediately). |
| `findaskill_get_skill` | Read one skill's full details before choosing it. |
| `findaskill_search_mcp_servers` | Search MCP servers, with a footprint level (light / medium / heavy). |

Your agent chooses its own search keywords from your task — you never need to write a query yourself.

## 4. Good to know

- **Skills apply immediately**; a newly added MCP server needs a reconnect (`/mcp`) or a new session before its tools work.
- **Heavy MCP warning**: a server with more than 15 tools or ~5 000 tokens of context is flagged — think twice before adding it.
- **Pagination**: searches return 5 results (max 10) with a `next_cursor` to fetch the next page of the same query.
- **Maintenance signal**: MCP server results include an `updated` date when the registry provides one, so you can spot abandoned projects.
- **Your key covers findaskill only.** A third-party service found in the catalog may need its own account or paid plan.

## 5. What we log (telemetry)

Each tool call is logged with: tool name, search query, number of results, response time, and a **hashed** IP address (the real IP is never stored). No conversation content, no secrets, no personal data. This helps us keep the service reliable and detect abuse. To ask for your logs to be deleted, contact us via the site.

## 6. Troubleshooting

- **Tools don't appear** → check the URL, the `Authorization` header, then reconnect. A successful HTTP ping alone doesn't mean the client loaded the tools.
- **401** → missing, invalid or revoked key. Create a new one in settings and update your client.
- **503** → the service is temporarily disabled; retry later.
- **Empty results** → rephrase with other keywords; the agent should never invent matches.

Full protocol details live in the server's `initialize` instructions and tool descriptions, which your client receives automatically.
