kubernetes-specialist: Claude Code Skill & Agent Tool
An open-source skill by jeffallan (opens in a new tab), published in the jeffallan/claude-skills (opens in a new tab) repository on GitHub. Writes and audits Kubernetes manifests — deployments, RBAC, NetworkPolicies, Helm charts, resource limits and storage — and helps debug crashing pods from their logs.

What this skill does
kubernetes-specialist turns your agent into a Kubernetes engineer for deploying and managing workloads. It follows a clear workflow: analyze the workload's characteristics, scaling needs and security requirements; design the architecture, choosing workload types, networking patterns and storage; implement declarative YAML manifests with proper resource limits and health checks; secure them with RBAC, NetworkPolicies, Pod Security Standards and least privilege; then validate.
The skill comes with production-ready patterns, such as a Deployment with resource limits, probes and a security context, a minimal least-privilege RBAC role, and a default-deny NetworkPolicy with explicit allow rules. It covers Helm charts, service accounts, storage configuration, Ingress and StatefulSets, as well as GitOps with Argo CD or Flux, service meshes, multi-cluster setups and cost optimization.
Validation is concrete: the agent watches rollouts, streams pod events to catch crash loops and image-pull errors, describes failing pods, reads container logs, compares resource usage with limits, audits a service account's permissions and rolls back a failed deployment when needed. Use it with Claude Code to write new manifests, review existing ones, or debug a crashing pod from its logs.
Key Capabilities
- Deployments with resource limits, probes and security contexts
- Least-privilege RBAC and default-deny NetworkPolicies
- Helm charts, storage, Ingress, StatefulSets and GitOps
- Debugs crash loops and image-pull errors from events and logs
- Validates rollouts with kubectl and rolls back failed deployments
How to use with Claude Code & AI Agents
Install the skill
Run the command above at the root of your project. The CLI asks which agents to set up — Claude Code, Cursor and other supported agents — and adds kubernetes-specialist to the project, so teammates who pull the repository get it too. Add-gto install it for your user account across every project.Open a new agent session
Start a fresh Claude Code session in that project so the agent loads the new skill. Have ready: kubectl access to a cluster (for validation and debugging).Ask in plain words
Describe the task, for example:“Write a Deployment and Service for this API with resource limits, probes and least-privilege RBAC.”The agent matches your request to the skill's description and follows its SKILL.md instructions step by step. Read them on GitHub before using the skill on a system that matters.
